Hassan Sentamu Sentenced to Life for Murder of Schoolgirl

London, UK – Hassan Sentamu, 18, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of 15-year-old schoolgirl Elianne Andam. The sentencing took place at the Old Bailey today, where Sentamu was ordered to serve a minimum of 23 years behind bars.

The incident occurred on September 27, 2023, near the Whitgift Centre in Croydon. Elianne Andam, described as a vibrant and aspiring human rights lawyer, was fatally stabbed in a frenzied attack by Sentamu. The attack was caught on CCTV and occurred after Elianne stood up for Sentamu's ex-girlfriend, who was her friend.

Sentamu, who had a history of carrying knives and attacking girls, launched the attack over a dispute involving a teddy bear that had been exchanged during his relationship with Elianne's friend. Despite claiming that his autism affected his ability to exercise self-control, Sentamu was found guilty of murder and possession of a knife in January.

During the sentencing, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb highlighted the senselessness and cruelty of the crime, stating that Elianne would "always remain just 15" and would never realize the potential of her life. Elianne's mother, Dorcas Andam, delivered a heart-wrenching victim impact statement, expressing the profound grief and loss felt by the family.
