Government has officially opened applications for the next phase of its funded childcare expansion, giving working parents in England access to 30 hours of free childcare per week for children as young as nine months old.

The new policy, which comes into effect in September 2025, is expected to ease financial pressures on families while providing high-quality early years education for young children. It follows last year’s successful rollout of 15 hours funded childcare, which supported nearly half a million families across the country.

Officials estimate that eligible parents could save up to £7,500 annually per child, depending on their circumstances and childcare provider. The initiative aims to help parents return to work while ensuring that children benefit from a strong educational foundation.

Early childhood advocates have praised the move, citing the importance of affordable, accessible childcare in promoting children's development and learning. Nurseries and childminders across England are preparing to meet increased demand as more families seek places under the scheme.

Applications can be submitted via the government's official website. Parents interested in applying can check their eligibility and access further details by visiting .
