George's Plain, Westmoreland native Ferron Perue, who works as a network engineer based in the UK, is stepping up in a big way to support families in his hometown communitiy devastated by Hurricane Melissa in western Jamaica.
With communications infrastructure crippled and entire communities left in ruins, Ferron is mobilising support from the UK using his technical expertise and personal connections to make a difference.
“I’ve spoken to folks in my community. They’ve lost everything,” Ferron shared. “We can’t wait for help to trickle down. We have to act now.”
Ferron has created an Amazon Wishlist filled with essential items, from solar-powered devices to hygiene kits and basic tools — that supporters can purchase directly. These items one purchased through Ferron's Wishlist will be freight-forwarded to families in need across Westmoreland and surrounding parishes. Ferron says these are much needed items like small solar generators to charge phones and small refridgeratos to prserve food and medicines for people with diabetes and other health condition.
“Every item donated goes straight to someone who needs it. We’re cutting out the red tape,” Ferron explained.
Beyond immediate aid, Ferron plans to travel to Jamaica to help restore damaged communications infrastructure. With many areas still cut off, reconnecting communities is critical for coordinating relief and rebuilding efforts.

As a seasoned network engineer, Ferron has worked for some of the UK's biggest internet service providers like Virgin Media. He hopes to work alongside local technicians and volunteers to bring internet and mobile services back online in the Island's hardest-hit zones.
