London, 16 June 2025 — Independent MP Ayoub Khan has called for an emergency recall of Parliament to vote on any proposed deployment of British military assets to the Middle East, following Israel’s recent airstrikes on Iranian military infrastructure.

In a strongly worded statement posted on social media, Khan declared: “The British public did not vote for this! Parliament must be recalled immediately to decide on this before we start putting our military in harm’s way and to waste £billions which we need in our country! Israel started this! So they can deal with it!”

The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region after Israeli forces reportedly targeted missile production facilities and air defence systems inside Iran over the weekend. The UK government has condemned Iran’s earlier ballistic missile attacks on Israel and reaffirmed its support for Israel’s right to self-defence.

Khan, who won his Birmingham Perry Barr seat as an independent on a pro-Gaza platform, has been a vocal critic of UK arms sales to Israel and Western military entanglements in the region. His latest intervention underscores growing unease among some MPs and constituents about the UK being drawn into a broader regional conflict.

His call has resonated with a segment of the public and fellow independents who argue that the UK’s involvement risks escalating an already volatile situation. However, critics accuse Khan of oversimplifying the conflict and undermining the UK’s strategic alliances.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy has urged restraint on all sides and emphasised the need to avoid further escalation.

As pressure mounts, the Speaker’s Office adhere to requests for an emergency session. Whether Khan’s demand will gain enough parliamentary traction remains to be seen—but his message has added fuel to an already combustible debate.
